Monica Merel, MBA, Co-Owner CEES, is a New Jersey native and is invested in the community she serves. Educated in Liberal Arts at Sarah Lawrence College, her original intention was to work for her Dad in his engineering firm, but a perfect storm dictated other plans. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW), established 1890, underwent reform in the mid-1980s by establishing an active campaign to bring minorities and women into the organization. A recruiter from IBEW called Monica and invited her to enter the intellectually and physically grueling apprenticeship program. Monica accepted the challenge, did well, and earned her NJ electrical License and all the rights of membership in the electrical services industry. As a master electrician, her specialty has become project management, overseeing the work of other registered and licensed professionals.
